George,

The fact that you had success once before indicates that the version of CD you had matched the PID (which I wrote about previously) on the Computer. This time it doesn't.

You could try another CD. Look at your Product Key label and see what version it says. Something like "Windows Professional XP - HP" or "Windows Home XP OEM" and find a disk that matches.

The Product Key is good - as a license - on the hardware you have. Reinstalling Windows of the same type (i.e. XP Home) is permissible. My understanding is that with Vista and Win7 all PIDs are on any given CD so that this problem is obviated.

You should not use the Product Key from another machine - though, if has been completely erased from that other machine .... but that's a grey area.
