[Computer Security Group] ZeuS Source Code Availability Worries Researchers

Security researchers worry that ZeuS source code, which is already available for sale on the underground market, could become widely available for anyone to use.

The history of ZeuS, one of the longest running and most successful trojans ever created, took an interesting turn last year when its creator decided to retire.

Slavik, as the ZeuS author calls himself, took the unusual step of leaving the trojan's code base to Gribodemon, creator of the competing SpyEye crimeware.

His intention was for Gribodemon to offer support to existent ZeuS customers and combine the two threats into one super trojan that had the best features of both.

Re: [Simply Computers] local area connection error

thanks, I'll try that also. Yes, I do have a firewall on both.

The main computer has windows 7, the laptop has XP.......I don't know if
that makes a difference but I do have anti-virus & firewall on both.

Try first re-setting the router.

If that doesn't work, then try shutting everything down (modem / router,
pc's) for about one minute. Then first turn on the modem / router and when
that is fully operational turn on the pc's. See if they work correctly.

This assumes your network is set to obtain IP addresses automatically. Check
this in network and sharing center | Change adapter settings | right click
on local area connection | select properties | choose properties for
internet protocol version 4 (TCP/IPv4).

Are you running a firewall on both machines?

how do I find out if I have an IP address conflict?

When I installed the router, I did it as Belkin instructed. First I put it
on the main computer then I used the disc to install it on the second one
and it found the connection on it's own.

I only use 1 router connected to 2 computers. My main computer I use for
email, the web and various other software since it has a larger hard drive &
more ram. The second computer is a laptop. I use it mainly for watching
videos.

Sounds like an Ip address conflict.

Do you have two routers on your network set up with DHCP enabled?

Do you have other computers on this network and is one of them setup
to a manual IP rather than obtaining and IP address automatically?

Have you talked to your ISP? This might also be a problem on their end
either with the modem or the transmission lines / connections coming to your
residence. When I had Comcast, I had them re-wire me from the pole in the
street to the house a then in the house to finally solve a poor connection.
Turned out in the final analysis not to be the wiring. It was a faulty
modem.

wired router.........but this started happening even without the router

It's a Belkin N300, model #F7D6301 v1........now that I look at it, it says
it's a wireless router but there is an electrical cord going into it and
ethernet cables go into the computers.
